About Antigua
With a beach for everyday of the year and kaleidoscopic coral reefs just begging to be explored, Antigua really has
it all. Scratch below the surface and you will find the heart and soul of the Caribbean, with a bustling capital
surrounded by colonial fortresses and charming windmills, its laid-back beaches are brought to life by fun-loving
locals and jamming calypso beats.
Our Travellers Guide
Beaches
If there’s one thing Antigua's got, it’s beaches - 365 in fact. Discover the tranquil Long Bay, the bustling Dickenson
Bay or seek out your own secret spot along the southwest coast.
Sports
Antigua's crystal-clear waters, multi-coloured sea life, endless coral reefs and shipwreck dive sites are sensational,
especially around Paradise Reef. Land pursuits include hiking, golfing, riding and Antigua's favourite, cricket.
Local tastes
You'll find French, English, Italian, Indian and traditional Caribbean fare. Seafood is the local speciality; try it
'blackened' with plenty of hot spices, followed by a homegrown sweet black pineapple.
Evening flavour
Just like its reggae, Antigua's nightlife moves to a laid-back beat. While most entertainment is hotel based, occasionally
you will find live calypso music and steel bands playing in the local bars.
Best buys
There is plenty of duty-free shopping to be had and locally made souvenirs include dolls clad in Creole costumes, straw-woven
baskets and batik clothing. Local spices are also great souvenirs, not forgetting the local rum.
