With exceptional visibility and thousands of coral reefs, this is the perfect place for diving and snorkelling. Boat trips, cruising, submarine voyages; cycling, golf and safari seaplanes are among other trendy pursuits.

Local tastes
Seafood is king here with conch as the main speciality, prepared minced, marinated, grilled or fried in batter. Lobster, crab, grouper and snapper are regular menu features, usually served with fried plantains, pumpkin and sweet potato. Rice and red beans is a regular accompaniment.

Evening flavour
At night, the Bahamas comes to life with pubs, clubs, discos and floorshows alive with Bahamian rhythm. Head to downtown Nassau for a glamorous night out or try your luck in the casino at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.

Best buys
Your can bargain for Bahamian crafts from raffia bags and hats, handmade rugs, woodcarvings and colourful ceramics in Nassau and Paradise Island’s bustling straw markets. Guava jams and jellies and Bacardi rum are also popular mementos.
