About Malaysia
Malaysia has to be one of the most pleasant, hassle-free countries to visit in Southeast Asia. A hypnotic corner of the Far East offering everything a traveller could wish for. Kuala Lumpur showcases one of the world's tallest buildings rising high above the skyscrapers and dynamic city life below. Malaysian jungle landscapes, colonial architecture and unspoilt tropical beaches complete this captivating destination.
Our Travellers Guide
Beaches
The best beaches lie on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia with superb snorkelling and endless white sand beaches. Penang's most popular are Tanjung Bungah, Batu Ferringhi, and Teluk Bahang or explore one of the offshore islands such as Pulau Langkawi.
Sports
Malaysia has ideal conditions for snorkelling and scuba diving with fantastic marine life around the Peninsula's east coast islands. Mountains, national parks and tropical rainforests are perfect for trekking or river safaris. Golf, tennis and kite flying are other favourites.
Local tastes
With Chinese, Malay and Indian influences, chicken satay is Malaysia’s famous speciality. Locals dine buffet style, nasi campur, with steamed rice served with a choice of meat and vegetables. Try the seafood and noodles and wash it down with a Tiger beer.
Evening flavour
Kuala Lumpur’s neon skyline is a haven for night owls, with bars, restaurants and plenty of clubs. In Penang, you’ll find pubs, discos and all-night coffee houses or head to Kota Kinabalu in Borneo for a similar scene.
Best buys
From silver, brass and pewter to pottery and beautiful batiks, Malaysian handicrafts are a great souvenir. You’ll find huge malls in Kuala Lumpur and Georgetown, Penang and for a real taste of Malaysia, engage in some lively banter in the night markets.
Live the Experience
Sail to Langkawi's Mangrove Forest to explore spectacular Far East scenery and fascinating wildlife including the resident brown eagles. Spend a night on Turtle Island, Borneo, to watch green sea turtles laying their eggs and see orang-utans in their natural habitats. Experience the sights and sounds of Kuala Lumpur on a fascinating city tour.
