About USA
Holidays to the USA have something to offer everyone. From colossal canyons to giant skyscrapers, amazing national parks to golden beaches,
wonderful wildlife to glittering cities. All you have to do now is decide which of our USA holidays to indulge in.
Guide to USA
Beaches in USA
The Sunshine State of Florida has over 660 miles of beaches. Miami's South Beach is the best place for celebrity spotting while Fort Lauderdale
offers both beachfront and waterways speckled with boats of all shapes and sizes. With white sands and warm sea, Clearwater and St Pete's on the
Gulf Coast are both seriously inviting.
Head to the west coast and the beautiful beaches of Los Angeles: The place to get a film star tan. Cool shores include Santa Monica Beach, with
its wooden pier; Venice Beach, home to entertainers, fitness fanatics and skaters; and Huntington Beach, playground of the rich and glamorous.
Hawaii, the southernmost part of the US, benefits from lots of sunshine hours so this is the place to sit back, relax and watch the bronzed
surf lovers at Waikiki Beach on Oahu. The other islands have beautiful beaches too but you'll find a much more chilled out atmosphere.
Sports
The USA is a sports-mad nation! Head to any of the larger cities and you're sure to find a sport event in action; basketball, baseball, Nascar,
volleyball, softball, football, ice hockey and more. Catch some LA Galaxy soccer or head to Venice Beach and see the rollerblading along Ocean Front Walk.
New York is home to teams in each of the major American professional sports leagues. Baseball is the city's most closely followed sport: the New York
Yankees and New York Mets enjoy fierce rivalry! The Boston Red Sox baseball team is located in Fenway Park so you may catch a game if you're in town
between February and September.
Local tastes
In most places in the USA you can find any type of cuisine from around the world. New York has everything from Armenian to Vietnamese but to really eat
like a local, try bacon & grits or a bagel & cream cheese for breakfast. You'll find fast food and a Starbucks on nearly every street that'll keep you
going on long days sight seeing and shopping. Don't forget to sip a Cosmopolitan in a trendy bar at the day's end.
Down South you'll find diverse and tasty local gastronomic fare, with mouth-watering sticky ribs, gumbo stews, spicy rice dishes and fresh seafood, all
ready and waiting to make your taste buds tingle!
The West Coast is famous for the delicious fresh seafood on most menus. In LA, while eating healthy is a la mode, there are plenty of fast food joints
offering cheap eats. A melting pot of ethnic gastronomy awaits you in Chinatown, Little Tokyo and El Mercado offering an alternative to LA's fishy fare.
San Francisco's Chinatown provides wonderful exotic eating experiences, from Shanghai-style to spicy. Perfectly reflecting its multi-cultural background,
eating around the city is a foodie's paradise, with juicy steak joints, delicate sushi restaurants and sweet-smelling bakeries jostling for room.
Las Vegas now has arguably some of the best restaurants in the US. With thousands of places to choose from there's always somewhere to enjoy a steak
dinner or shrimp cocktail, indulgent brunches and all you can eat buffets as well as gourmet dining from around the globe.
Evening flavour
Whether heading to New York, Boston, LA, or San Francisco, you'll find plenty of trendy cocktail bars and disco-dazzling nightclubs as well as more
sedate outlets for the quieter nights on the town. In New York, take in a Broadway show or have dinner on a cruise on the Hudson and East rivers. In
Las Vegas you'll be spoilt for choice for shows: theatre, stand-up comedians, pop stars and the body bending brilliance of Cirque du Soleil, as well
as the many casinos. In Hawaii, the evenings are a fairly low key affair except in the buzzing surfer destination of Waikiki Beach.
Best buys
Shop till you drop and make good use of the favourable exchange rate! Head to the outlet malls for some astounding prices.
In Boston, rifle through the bargains at Filenne's Basement and in New York, head to Century 21.
In San Francisco, you'll discover unique boutiques in the North Beach Italian quarter and ample opportunity for those essential cappuccino and biscotti breaks.
In LA, head to Rodeo Drive for some 'Pretty Woman' retail therapy or for the more affordable choices visit 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica.
When visiting the southern States pick up some musical memorabilia - anything from Elvis to Ella.
You can't leave Hawaii without buying a brightly coloured Hawaiian shirt as a memory but you'll also find beautiful pearl and coral jewellery to adorn yourself with.
Live the Experience
You need to get out and about to really experience everything the US has to offer. In New York, take the ferry over to Ellis Island and visit the
immigration centre. Ride to the top of the Empire State Building or Top of the Rock for a truly awesome cityscape.
In Boston, experience both land and water with an excursion on the Boston Duck Tours as it takes you around the sights of this historic city and
plunges into the Charles River. Or simply walk the 2.5 mile red brick Freedom Trail to discover the secrets.
Sip a cappuccino at a sidewalk cafe amongst the Art Deco architecture on Ocean Drive in Miami and watch the world go by.
Relive your childhood memories at the magical theme parks in Orlando. Take a day trip out to visit the Kennedy Space Center for an astronomic adventure!
Visit America's National Parks and see some of Mother Nature's best work, from the soaring sequoia forests to the plummeting waterfalls and the snow-capped
mountains tickling the heavens to the intense redness of the canyons and rock formations.
In San Francisco, talk a wobbly walk along the world's 'crookedest' road, Lombard Street. See the sea lions at Fisherman's Wharf before heading out to the
infamous Alcatraz prison.
Spot stars on the Walk of Fame and check out Mann's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. For movie enthusiasts, visit Universal in the Hollywood hills and take
the 'behind the scenes' trolley tour.
In Hawaii, see fiery lava flowing into the ocean from the active Kilauea Volcano and marvel at the lunar landscape of dormant Haleakala on Maui. See
humpback whales pass by from November to May during their winter migration. Discover Kauai's immense Waimea Canyon - the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.
